We recommend that all mares are scanned to ensure they are in foal and that they are not carrying twins. Mares can also be scanned 24 hours after last covering to ensure ovulation and that there are no signs of inflamation which may prevent pregnancy. Many mares have an allergic reaction to the stallions semen which with early diagnosis from scanning and antibiotic treatment, within 4 days of covering, can be treated and any further problems prevented. This is quite a common problem.
